Why I began these open courses
These courses began because my daughter loves to draw.
I wanted to understand where the art of different civilizations came from, but art history proved to be only one slice of a larger story shaped by environment, technology, economics, and social structure.
I have also long been drawn to economics and the forces beneath money, capital, wealth, and cycles.
To understand history is to understand ourselves; to see the world more clearly is to live in it more consciously.
A connected model
History and economics eventually meet on the same map.
Ancient history studies grain, power, and order; modern economics studies money, credit, and wealth. Both ask how people organize resources—and how their structures shape them in return.
